VIGILANCE BUREAU ARRESTS ASI FOR TAKING RS 10,000 BRIBE TO HELP IN OBTAINING BAIL

The Vigilance Bureau (VB) Punjab, during its drive against corruption in the state, on Friday nabbed an Assistant Sub Inspector (ASI) Bikkar Singh (No 2365/Sgr), posted at police station Dirba, Sangrur district red handed while accepting a bribe of Rs 10,000.

Disclosing this here today a spokesperson of the state VB said the above mentioned accused has been arrested on a complaint lodged by Baljeet Singh, resident of village Turbanjara, tehsil Dirba. He further informed that the complainant has approached the VB and informed that the said ASI Bikkar Singh was demanding a bribe of Rs. 10,000 for helping his known person Gurvinder Singh to obtain anticipatory bail in a case registered at Dirba police station.

He further informed that after conducting a preliminary investigation into the complaint the VB Patiala range laid a trap and the said accused was caught red handed in the presence of two official witnesses while he was accepting a bribe of Rs.10000 from the complainant.

He added that a case under prevention of corruption act has been registered against ASI Bikkar Singh at VB police station Patiala range and further investigation was under progress.
