POLICE INACTION CONTINUES DESPITE PHONE CALL FROM MINISTER ANIL VIJ, MAHANT WARNS OF SELF-IMMOLATION

(MOREPIC1)Deepak Singh/ Chandigarh:

Former Ambala Assembly election candidate Latika Mahant has launched a strong protest against the alleged land mafia, levelling serious accusations during a press conference held at the Chandigarh Press Club on Thursday. She claimed that despite repeated complaints, the police administration has failed to take any concrete action, even after intervention by senior leaders.

Addressing the media, Latika Mahant alleged that she was subjected to forcible trespassing, assault, theft, illegal occupation of property and repeated death threats. She stated that she has not received justice so far, forcing her to take the matter to higher authorities.

Mahant informed that she has already submitted a written complaint to the Superintendent of Police, Ambala. In her complaint, she has named Gurmeet, his wife, their son Sandeep, along with Preetpal, Mukesh, Sandeep Dippo Wala, Karnail Halwai, Bhupinder, Kuldeep, Om Prakash, Balveer (former sarpanch), Shiv Kumar and several unidentified persons.

According to Mahant, on December 28, 2025, around 6:15 pm, when she was present at her house in Kathgarh village along with her disciple, a mob of nearly 40–50 people forcibly entered her house. She alleged that the accused assaulted her, abused her verbally and attempted to forcibly evict her from the property. During the incident, gold, silver, cash, important documents and other valuables were allegedly stolen.

She further stated that she had entered into a deal to purchase the house for ₹4 lakh, and had already paid ₹50,000 as advance, which was transferred online to the account of Gurmeet’s son, Sandeep. Despite this, she alleged that influential individuals are now attempting to illegally occupy the property.
Latika Mahant also clarified that she is a Mahant (religious head) and has been legally granted the right to collect offerings (maang-badhai) from 10 villages by her Guru, for which valid documents are available.

During the press conference, Mahant live-tweeted the entire matter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, seeking immediate intervention and justice. She demanded that her house, stolen belongings and important documents be restored to her and that strict legal action be taken against the accused.

She further warned that she has been receiving continuous death threats and her life is in serious danger. Expressing deep frustration over the alleged administrative inaction, Latika Mahant cautioned that she may be forced to take extreme steps, including self-immolation, if justice is not delivered soon.
