CHANDIGARH CYBER POLICE SOLVED CASE DUPING 3.26 LAKHS , ACCUSED ARRESTED FROM GURUGRAM

In a major breakthrough against cyber criminals, the Cyber Crime Police Station has successfully arrested One key accused involved Apk fraud. The accused Devansh Goyal  (23) S/O Rajesh Goyal from Gurugram. was arrested in connection FIR No. 149 dated 25.12.2025 under sections 319(2), 318(4), 338, 336(3), 340(2) and 61(2) of the BNS has been registered at PS Cyber Crime, UT Chandigarh.

The operation was carried out under the dynamic leadership of Ms. Geetanjali Khandelwal, IPS, SP-Cyber Crime, UT Chandigarh, with strategic guidance from Sh. A. Venkatesh, DSP Cyber Crime, and the close supervision of Inspector Ms. Eram Rizvi, SHO, PS-Cyber Crime, Sector 17, Chandigarh. 

As per the complaint of Ramesh Singh Rawat, of Maloya, he received a WhatsApp message from an unknown mobile number containing a link titled “MPparivahan APK”, believing the link to be related to a pending vehicle challan, the complainant clicked on it. Immediately thereafter, his mobile phone started malfunctioning and became unresponsive, indicating possible installation of malicious software.

The complainant began receiving multiple OTPs, messages and calls from unknown numbers. Subsequently, unauthorized transactions were reported from his credit cards. An amount of ₹1,36,294 was fraudulently withdrawn from his AU Small Finance Bank credit card, and ₹1,90,000 was illegally debited from his ICICI Bank credit card, taking the total fraudulent amount to ₹3,26,294 (Rupees Three Lakh Twenty-Six Thousand Two Hundred Ninety-Four). It was further alleged that important banking messages, OTPs and transaction alerts were deleted from the victim’s mobile phone to delay detection of the fraud. 

During the investigation, it was revealed that the disputed amount was used to purchase gift cards were subsequently redeemed to buy online gold. The SIM cards allegedly used for this purpose were utilized to receive delivery of the gold coins, which were delivered in the Delhi NCR region.

During the arrest, one mobile phone, iPhone 13 Pro Max, bearing mobile number 92XXXXXX, was recovered from the accused. The said mobile number, which was used in the commission of the fraud, was also recovered from his possession.
