GMCH SECURITY EMPLOYEES’ UNION ELECTIONS TO BE HELD AGAIN

Read in:English

Face2News/Chandigarh:

The elections held recently for the GMCH Security Employees’ Union, Sector 32, have been declared invalid and annulled. The Additional Labour Commissioner (ALC) convened a meeting of both parties, during which it was agreed that a general body meeting of the union would be called before 10 February 2026 to decide a fresh date for new elections.

It is noteworthy that on 10 December, Sardar Jagjit Singh was unanimously elected as the Union President. However, thereafter, some security employees convened another meeting and fixed 23 December as the election date, conducted elections, and elected Hardeep Singh as President.

Meanwhile, Sardar Jagjit Singh and other union members had, a week earlier, lodged complaints with the Labour Court, the SSP, and the Deputy Commissioner Nishant Yadav, terming the election illegal. Following this, the Deputy Commissioner marked the matter to the ALC. The ALC then issued notices to both parties to appear before the Labour Court, and members of both sides appeared accordingly.

The ALC directed both parties to fix the election date in a joint general body meeting before 10 February 2026 and inform the Labour Court. Both parties agreed to hold fresh elections. The ALC further stated that if the parties fail to decide a date, the Labour Commissioner would fix the date himself. It was also decided that the Labour Inspector would be appointed as the Election Officer by the Labour Court.
