Major Jagtar Johal, Sena Medal from Mohali is one of the awardees at the Central Command Investiture Ceremony 2023. He cultivated a local source over a sustained period of 11 months. On 01 July 2021 the source confirmed presence of 04 – 05 terrorists in a village of Pulwama District and a cordon search operation was launched under his leadership.
He laid the initial cordon with complete surprise, trapped the terrorists and ensured all civilians were evacuated from the cordon to mitigate collateral damage.
Once contact was established, he exercised tactical command and four terrorists were neutralised. Major Jagtar with search party entered the target house where the last terrorist had firmly established himself.
Upon entering the house, the hiding terrorist opened fire, reacting quickly to the situation, he engaged the terrorist with accurate fire and facilitated balance search party to take cover. He further closed onto the terrorist and neutralised him in a brief and intense exchange of fire. For developing actionable human intelligence, leading a complex cordon and search operation and neutralizing one hardcore terrorist. Major Jagtar Johal, Sena Medal will be awarded ‘BAR TO SENA MEDAL (GALLANTRY)’ on 08 Feb 23 at Central Command Investiture Ceremony at Jabalpur.
