The extension building of University Institute of Legal Studies, Panjab University was inaugurated by Prof (Dr.) Raj Kumar, Vice Chancellor, Panjab University Chandigarh and Prof (Dr.) Rajinder Kaur, Director, University Institute of Legal Studies.

University Institute of Legal Studies (UILS) was established as the constituent department of Panjab University, in the academic session 2004-05.

During a short period, it has emerged as one of the premier legal Institutes in the country with a unique blend of tradition and modernity. Students are trained in the essence of the substantive laws, techniques of procedural laws, methods of client counselling, and skills in legal and social sciences research, etc.

The Institute was ranked amongst top-30 Law schools in India as per the NIRF rankings-2022. The Institute already had 18 spacious and modernised classrooms, however, as the per the BCI rules, the batch was increased to 360 students in 2019 and the infrastructure fell short to accommodate the increased number of students.

Hence, the Institute in order to provide for the upcoming batches decided to construct the extension building in 2020. The University authorities were very considerate and provided their aid to the Institute in constructing the new building.

The extension building is multistorey. It is equipped with smart classrooms to cater the needs of technological advancement and post-COVID changes that were introduced in the education system. The Institute sincerely believes that the current infrastructure will benefit the students and provide them the conducive environment for learning and development.
