A state-of-the-art Liquid Chromatography–Tandem Mass Spectrometry (LC-MS/MS) equipment was inaugurated today at the Department of Biochemistry, Government Medical College & Hospital, Sector 32 Chandigarh, by Sh. Mandip Singh Brar, IAS Home Secretary-cum-Secretary Medical Education & Research, Chandigarh Administration.

The ceremony was conducted in the Biochemistry Department, E Block, in the presence of Prof. G.P. Thami, Director Principal, GMCH, and faculty members of the institute.

The newly installed LC-MS/MS platform places GMCH among the select few Government Medical Colleges in India—and one of the few centres in North India—equipped with this advanced diagnostic technology. This instrument will significantly enhance the diagnostic capabilities of the Department of Biochemistry.

The department has started the extended newborn metabolic screening, allowing early detection of more than 40 inherited metabolic disorders from a single dried blood spot—critical for timely intervention in high-risk infants. With this technology, the department of Biochemistry has also started the Therapeutic Drug Monitoring of anti-epileptic drugs, ensuring high-precision results for patient management across multiple clinical departments.
