CHANDIGARH STANDS FIRST IN VOLUNTARY BLOOD DONATION AMONG ALL UNION TERRITORIES

The Blood Transfusion Services (BTS), Directorate General of Health Services, Ministry of Health & Family Welfare, Government of India, facilitated the award ceremony today at AIIMS, New Delhi, on the occasion of National Voluntary Blood Donation Day.

The State Blood Transfusion Council, Chandigarh was conferred with the award for achieving the first position among all Union Territories for the highest number of voluntary blood donations during the year 2024.

Under this initiative, Chandigarh successfully organized 993 blood donation camps against the assigned target of 858 camps, and collected a total of 1,07,993 blood units against the target of 1,00,000 units set by the Government of India.

Chandigarh has four licensed Blood Centres that cater not only to the population of Chandigarh but also to the neighbouring states: • Blood Centre, PGIMER • Blood Centre, GMCH-32 • Blood Centre, GMSH-16
• Rotary & Blood Bank Society Resource Centre-37

Dr. Sadbhavna Pandit, Member Secretary, State Blood Transfusion Council, U.T. Chandigarh, stated that this remarkable achievement was made possible under the able leadership of the Secretary Health and the guidance of the Director Health Services, Chandigarh Administration. She further acknowledged the tireless efforts of the teams at all Blood Centres, as well as the support and coordination of NGOs in Chandigarh.
