In a sweeping crackdown codenamed Operation Endgame, the Investigation Wing of the Income Tax Department, Chandigarh on Wednesday has busted North India’s largest online betting and gambling syndicate. Over 250 officers, including senior Deputy Commissioners and Directors, swooped down on 35 locations across the region in simultaneous raids.
The operation has already unearthed tax evasion of more than Rs.500 crore, along with hard evidence of money laundering through hawala networks, benami accounts, and high-value property deals.
Officials said Operation Endgame was designed to deliver a decisive blow to the shadow economy thriving on illicit online betting, marking one of the most significant enforcement actions in recent years.
Sources said, few persons have been taken into custody for investigation.
