After the quality check of Central Drugs Standard Control medicines in July, the organization (CDSCO) has issued a drug alert across the country. In this check, a total of 143 medicines were found to be bad in the country. These include 61 medicines from Himachal Pradesh.
The quality of many important medicines including medicines for heart patients, antibiotics, pain relievers has been found to be unsatisfactory. Along with this, an alert has also been issued for eight fake medicines related to serious diseases, whose use in the market can pose a serious threat to the patients. These fake medicines have been made by unauthorized companies and their investigation and action is currently underway. According to the Central Drug Laboratories (CDSCO) in July, conducted 46 and State Level Drug Testing out of which 61 in both Haryana and Madhya Pradesh, 24 in Uttarakhand, 8 each in Gujarat. 2 each in Rajasthan and Tamil Nadu, 4 in Telangana, 5 in Punjab, 3 in Kolkata, 3 in Jammu and Kashmir, one each in Uttar Pradesh, Goa and Bihar have been found to be failed.
The laboratories have tested 97 drug samples These were declared sub-standard after not being found to be in accordance with the quality standards. This step has been taken to provide safe medicines to patients by removing substandard and fake medicines from the market. Himachal Pradesh State Drug Controller Manish Kapoor said that sampling has been increased so that substandard medicines can be identified and removed from the market.
