CBI COURT SENTENCES 8 FORMER RAILWAY EMPLOYEES TO FIVE YEARS IMPRISONMENT, FINE OF RS. 5 LAKH EACH IN EXAM PAPER LEAK CASE

The Special Judge for CBI cases, Ahmedabad on Monday convicted and sentenced following 8 accused persons to five years simple Imprisonment along with a fine of Rs. 5,00,000/- each (Total fine Rs. 40,00,000/-) in a case of criminal conspiracy, theft, offence of dishonestly receiving or retaining stolen property, causing disappearance of evidence of offence, committing offence in furtherance of common intention and criminal misconduct:

Anand Somabhai Meraiya, the then Electric Signal Maintainer-III, Bajwa, Vadodara, Prakash Sitaramdas Karamchandani, the then Sr. Clerk (ED), Divisional Officer, Vadodara, Shri Mehboobali Abduljabbar Ansari, the then Asstt. Diesel Driver, Kankaria, W. Rly., Ahmedabad, Pareshkumar Lalhibhai Patel, the then Diesel Asstt. Driver, Kankaria, W. Rly. Ahmedabad, Pappu Babba Khan, Constable, Railway Protection Force, Ajmer

(SUBHEAD)CBI registered the instant case on 17.08.2002 on the basis of complaint of the then Chief Vigilance Inspector, W. Rly., Ahmedabad regarding leakage of question paper by Shri Rajesh Goswami, ESM-III, Karjan-Boriyavi, W. Rly., Anand and others of Railway Department. The gist of allegation is that Shri Rajeshkumar Kaleshwar Goswami, & other unknown employees of Railways and private persons were collecting various amounts ranging from Rs. 50,000 to One Lakh from the candidates who were to appear for the written examination for the post of Probationary Asstt. Station Master which was scheduled on 18.08.2002.

After investigation, CBI filed charge-sheet on 28.07.2003 against the above mentioned 8 convicted persons and one private person (Expired during trial).  

After trial, the Court convicted the above mentioned accused and sentenced them accordingly.
