The Fire and Rescue Services Department of the Municipal Corporation conducted a surprise fire safety audit at several major coaching institutes in Sector 34 on Monday to assess their preparedness and compliance with safety norms. During the inspection, deficiencies related to fire safety standards were found at some institutes, prompting officials to issue immediate directions for corrective measures.
According to official information, a team led by Joint Commissioner and Chief Fire Officer Dr. Inderjit inspected prominent coaching centres, including Helix Institute, Allen Career Institute, Sri Chaitanya Academy, Alex Institute, Head Masters Academy, Narayana Coaching Centre, and PW Vidyapeeth.
The audit focused on examining fire-fighting systems, emergency exits, student evacuation arrangements, access routes for rescue operations, and overall compliance with fire safety regulations. Several institutions were found lacking in certain safety provisions, following which the managements were instructed to take immediate remedial action.
Thousands of students attend these coaching institutes daily, making adherence to safety norms crucial for handling any emergency situation effectively. In light of fire incidents reported at coaching centres across the country in recent years, the administration is keen to ensure that no negligence is overlooked.
Chief Fire Officer Dr. Inderjit emphasized that institutions accommodating large numbers of students must remain fully committed to fire safety standards. He also directed officials to carry out regular inspections of such sensitive buildings and ensure strict compliance with prescribed norms.
The surprise inspection drive is being seen as a clear message from the Municipal Corporation that no compromise will be tolerated when it comes to student safety. The Fire Department has announced that similar special inspection campaigns will continue in the coming days.
