Dr. Amrita Duhan, a dashing Indian Police Service (IPS) officer, has been appointed as the new Superintendent of Police (SP) in Sriganganagar. Known as 'Lady Singham' for her bold and domineering image, Dr Duhan's appointment is considered an important step for Sriganganagar, where extortion threats and criminal activities of notorious gangsters have created panic among the locals.
Dr. Duhan, a 2016 batch Rajasthan cadre IPS officer, hails from Rohtak, Haryana. She obtained MBBS and MD in Pathology degrees and served as Assistant Professor at BPS Medical College, Sonepat. Despite being married and mother of a son, she cleared the UPSC Civil Services Examination and entered the IPS.
(SUBHEAD)In 2017, she won three trophies as the best female trainee, best female outdoor trainee and second-best overall trainee at the Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel National Police Academy.
During her posting in Jodhpur, she arrested 22 notorious criminals of the Lawrence Bishnoi gang. During this operation, the gang henchmen had threatened her through social media, but her fearlessness and strategic action instilled fear in the criminals. This action earned her the title of 'Lady Singham' and further strengthened her credibility in the Rajasthan Police.
As City SP in Kota, she arrested 720 criminals in 2024, including 151 wanted and 30 fugitive criminals. In Kota, she paid special attention to the safety and mental health of the students, which improved the law and order there. Her appointment at Sriganganagar has been widely welcomed by traders and other communities.
