The three-day 12th National Gatka Championship, being organized by the National Gatka Association of India (NGAI) at Talkatora Stadium, New Delhi, was inaugurated today by Dr. Tejinderpal Singh Nalwa, Senior Advocate of the Supreme Court of India and President of the Asian Gatka Federation, in the presence of Harjeet Singh Grewal, President of NGAI, and Sukhchain Singh Kalsani, Acting President.

Speaking on the occasion, Harjeet Singh Grewal said that inclusion of Gatka in the National Games, Khelo India Youth Games, National School Games, and All India Inter-University Games is a major achievement.

(SUBHEAD)This significant milestone, he stated, would pave the way for Gatka to become part of international sporting events in the future. Highlighting Gatka as a prominent national sport and a form of self-defence, he emphasized its bright future and urged both boys and girls to actively participate in the sport.

Addressing the gathering, Dr. Tejinderpal Singh Nalwa, President of the Asian Gatka Federation, said under the aegis of the World Gatka Federation, the National Gatka Association of India has taken historic steps in advancing the Gatka sport. He further announced that a roadmap has been prepared for organizing even larger tournaments in the future. He revealed that the second Federation Gatka Cup would be held in December, featuring teams from various states across the country.

Among other dignitaries present on the occasion included Baljit Singh Saini, Sarbjit Singh and Yograj Singh from Punjab, Jaswant Singh from Chhattisgarh, Vishal Singh from Telangana, Pandurang Ambure from Maharashtra, Paramjit Singh from Madhya Pradesh, Prince Mishra from Jharkhand, Surinder Reddy from Andhra Pradesh, Sandeep Kumar from Tamil Nadu, Gurmeet Singh Rana and Angad Singh from Delhi.
