PANIC GRIPS SUB DIVISIONAL COMPLEX AS TWO GROUPS CLASH

Panic gripped the sub divisional administrative and judicial complex here today when two groups of litigants tried to attack each other with swords. The police personnel present on the spot controlled the hooded youth and handled the situation; otherwise a major incident could have happened in the court premises.

Earlier, on December 11 last year, some armed individuals, having criminal record, had allegedly shot dead a litigant in the parking area when he returned from the court. The deceased was identified as Golu Pandit, who was the son of a Priest of historic Zohari Mandir. The Bar Association members had approached the High Court through Advocate Surinder Pal Singh Tinna, on which the HC had directed the Fazilka SSP to strengthen security arrangements in the complex for safety of Lawyers and visiting litigants but nothing significant was done. There was no arrangement to prevent entry of persons carrying weapons, insiders said.

The lawyers’ fraternity expressed anger over today’s incident and said that people come here with the hope of justice. If common people are not safe in the temple of justice, then how can they be safe elsewhere? They said that the police administration should make strict arrangements for the safety of the people
