VIGILANCE BUREAU FLYING SQUAD NABS SUB-INSPECTOR RED HANDED TAKING RS. 80,000 BRIBE

The Punjab Vigilance Bureau (VB) during its ongoing drive against corruption, on Wednesday, arrested Sub-Inspector (SI) Harmesh Kumar, in-charge of Police Post Kalwa, under Noorpur Bedi police station, in Rupnagar district red handed while he was accepting a bribe of Rs. 80,000. 

Disclosing this here today an official spokesperson of the state VB said the arrest came after a complainant of village Toora, in Phillour Sub-division, Jalandhar district approached the Bureau about the accused had demanded illegal gratification.

(SUBHEAD)He further added that the complainant has approached the VB and alleged that the aforementioned police personnel had demanded a bribe of Rs 1,50,000 to help him in a police case registered against him. He further informed that the said SI had already taken Rs 20,000 as a first instalment in this regard and demanding the remaining money.

The spokesperson further added that after a preliminary verification of this complaint a VB team from flying squad laid a carefully planned trap during which the said police official was caught red-handed accepting Rs 80,000 as a second instalment of bribe from the complainant in the presence of two official witnesses. In this regard a case has been registered against the accused under Prevention of Corruption Act at the VB Flying Squad-1, police station Punjab at Mohali. 

He revealed that interrogation of the arrested personal is currently underway for possible involvement of other accomplices. The VB officials are scrutinizing past complaints against the SI to identify any patterns of his misconduct. The accused would be produced in the competent court tomorrow and future investigations are underway, he said.
