ANANDPUR SAHIB POLO DOMINATES CHANDIGARH IN NAIL-BITING POLO SHOWDOWN BY 6-4

In a thrilling exhibition polo match held on the sidelines of the Hola Mohalla festivities, Anandpur Sahib Polo emerged victorious over Chandigarh with a 6-4 win at Charan Ganga Stadium on Friday. The host team which was led by former Indian polo captain and current coach for the Indian Polo Association (IPA), Col Navjit Singh Sandhu dominated the four-chakkar (rounds) contest as he scored an impressive five shots to the goalpost.

The visitors made an impressive start by taking an early 2-1 lead in the first chakkar. However, Col Sandhu turned the tide in the second chakkar with a remarkable performance by scoring three consecutive goals and putting his team ahead at 4-2.

(SUBHEAD)The match remained evenly contested through the third chakkar with Chandigarh narrowing the gap to 3-4. However, two decisive goals from Col Sandhu in the final chakkar secured the lead. The final goal strucked by Dilpreet Singh Sidhu was not good enough as the scoreline 6-4 went in the favour of hosts.

Earlier, the match was inaugurated by Kultar Singh Sandhwan, Speaker, Punjab Vidhan Sabha who emphasized the importance of such sporting events in preserving heritage and fostering sportsmanship. 

Speaking on the occasion, Dilpreet Singh Sidhu, President, Chandigarh Polo Association expressed his delight at the growing enthusiasm for polo and highlighted the significance of such events in promoting equestrian sports. Vikram Singh Sodhi, the organizer, and trustee, Anandpur Sahib Heritage Foundation echoed these sentiments and appreciated the sports spirit of the players.

He affirmed that the next edition will be participated with more teams from Manipur and one overseas team.
