ICMR SANCTIONS RS. 1 CRORE RESEARCH PROJECT TO PANJAB UNIVERSITY FOR PCOS STUDY

The Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) has sanctioned a three-year research project worth Rs. 1 crore to Panjab University, Chandigarh. The project will be led by Principal Investigator Dr. Indu Sharma from the Department of Zoology, with Prof. Indu Pal Kaur from the University Institute of Pharmaceutical Sciences (UIPS) as Co-Principal Investigator. 

The research aims to investigate the underlying mechanisms of dietary and lifestyle-induced Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS), a prevalent hormonal disorder affecting women. In addition, the study will explore nanoparticle-based therapeutic interventions using a PCOS rat model to develop potential treatment strategies. 

(SUBHEAD)Dr. Indu Sharma highlighted the significance of the project, stating, “PCOS is a growing health concern among women, often linked to modern lifestyle and dietary habits. Our research will provide deeper insights into its biological mechanisms and explore innovative therapeutic approaches.” 

Prof. Indu Pal Kaur emphasized the role of nanotechnology in developing effective treatments, adding, “Nanoparticle-based drug delivery systems hold immense promise in improving the efficacy and safety of PCOS treatments. This project will contribute to advancing targeted therapeutic options.” 

The study is expected to pave the way for improved understanding and management of PCOS, benefiting both scientific research and clinical applications.
