Chandigarh has entered the knockout stage of the Syed Mushtaq Ali T20 Trophy very first time since its inception by defeating Odisha by two wickets in a thrilling end. In the league match played at Vijayanagaram, UT boys sealed the win with one ball to spare. Chandigarh won four out of six matches and secured the second position in the pool with 16 points. Vidarbha topped the chart.

Earlier, Chandigarh won the toss and decided to field first. Odisha scored 205/7 runs in the stipulated twenty overs with the help of top scorer Gaurav Chaudhary (74) and unbeaten Arshiwad Swain (43). The trio of Raj Angad Bawa, Nikhil Sharma and Jagjit Sandhu took two wickets.

In reply, despite splendid knocks from openers Arsalan Khan (51) and Amrit Lubana (52), Chandigarh looked to be struggling at one stage at 179/7 on the board. Gaurav Puri's quickfire 37 off 18 balls steered Chandigarh to the final over. The unbeaten 11 runs from Jagjit Sandhu proved vital.
