PUNJAB WON THE FOURTH LATE BALRAMJI TANDON U-16 CRICKET TOURNAMENT

Punjab has won the fourth edition of the Late Balramji Tandon Under 16 Multi Days Cricket Tournament by virtue of innings lead in the final match played at DAV College, Sector 10 on Sunday. The winner and runner-up teams were awarded by the chief guest Indian Premier League’s Chairman Arun Singh Dhumal and guest of honor former test cricketer Ashok Malhotra in the presence of UT Cricket Association’s President Sanjay Tandon.
Motivating the teams, Dhumal said that hard work is the only mantra to get success in cricket. Citing his own nation India with a population of nearly 150 crore, he said that only hard work is the only key which leads to success to make a place in the squad of 15 players. Hence get discipline to align with your hardwork and regime.
On this occasion Ashok Malhotra also recalled his days at DAV College and Chandigarh and briefed how his old friends encouraged the game in those old days. Earlier, UTCA’s President Sanjay Tandon in his welcome address, appraised about the tournament and said that five years ago the under 16 cricket tournament was conceived to promote cricket at the grassroots level and currently teams from across the country are participating in this event.
He informed that the gully cricket tournament started at the local level two years ago is now a case study for other state boards which is getting immense response with its massive participation. On this occasion, BCCI match referee Ratinder Sodhi and other UTCA officials were also present.
Earlier, Punjab won the toss and decided to field first. After bowling out Delhi for mere 124 runs, Punjab scored 362/5 runs wherein Shanveer Kalsi (165) and Arvind Singh (105) scored centuries. Punjab got a mammoth lead of 238 runs. Delhi scored 110/5 in their second innings. Ranveer Ahuja of UTCA was awarded the best bowler for taking 27 wickets in the tournament while Punjab's Advik Singh, who scored 456 runs, was given the title of best batsman. Ahuja also scored 57 runs along with 27 wickets and was declared the man of the tournament. The tournament started on November 4 in which teams from Himachal Pradesh, Punjab, Tripura, Mizoram, J&K and Chandigarh participated.
