The Governor of Punjab and Administrator, UT Chandigarh, Shri Gulab Chand Kataria, accompanied by the Chief Secretary, U.T. Chandigarh, Shri H. Rajesh Prasad, today laid the foundation stone of two new state-of-the-art police stations at IT Park and Mauli Jagran. The initiative is aimed at strengthening law and order in the rapidly expanding areas of the city.
Also present on the occasion were the Home Secretary, Shri Mandip Singh Brar; Director General of Police, Dr. Sagar Preet Hooda; Finance Secretary, Shri Diprava Lakra; Inspector General of Police, Shri Pushpender Kumar; Secretary Engineering, Ms. Prerna Puri, along with other senior officers of the Chandigarh Administration and Chandigarh Police.
(SUBHEAD)Addressing the gathering, the Governor stated that these projects align with the vision of “Future-Ready Chandigarh 2030 and Beyond” and underscore the Administration’s commitment to citizen-centric, responsive, and modern policing. Emphasizing that effective policing is fundamental to the overall growth and development of a city, he expressed confidence that the new police stations would enable the Chandigarh Police to reach new milestones and further enhance its record of achievements. He also highlighted drug abuse as the most pressing challenge facing Chandigarh and Punjab, and called for innovative and stronger measures to effectively combat this menace.
Sharing details of the projects, it was informed that the IT Park Police Station will be constructed on 0.366 acres of land, with a built-up area of approximately 19,832 square feet, at an estimated cost of ₹9.81 crore. The Mauli Jagran Police Station will be developed on 0.789 acres, with a built-up area of about 41,227 square feet, at a cost of ₹19.51 crore. Both police stations will be equipped with modern facilities, including women help desks, separate lock-ups and barracks for men and women, interrogation rooms, malkhana, armoury, conference halls, canteens, parking facilities, and barrier-free access for persons with disabilities. The Mauli Jagran Police Station will comprise 52 rooms and will be equipped with comprehensive fire safety systems.
Both buildings will be constructed as green buildings, incorporating sustainable features such as rainwater harvesting systems, solar energy installations, and solar lighting.
The Governor noted that the new police stations would significantly enhance public safety, reduce emergency response times, and strengthen community policing. He added that these initiatives would help build greater public trust in the police and contribute to making Chandigarh a safer and more secure city.
