Finally, elevated road stretch between Bharat Nagar Chowk and Bus Stand has been completed.

This stretch of the road will be made open for the vehicular traffic on February 10, announced Sanjeev Arora, MP (Rajya Sabha) from Ludhiana in a statement here on Friday.

Arora said Ashok Rolaniya, Project Director, National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has confirmed him about opening of the road on Saturday. He said the NHAI will be starting putting up the required sign boards along the road by Friday evening.

Further, Arora thanked the Union Minister of Road Transport and Highways Nitin Jairam Gadkari and the NHAI chairman Santosh Kumar Yadav on whose directions and guidelines the speedy work has been carried out following which finally the work has been completed. He said the completion of the project will give a sigh of relief to commuters from traffic congestions. “I’m happy that my efforts have shown positive results”, he remarked.

Arora has been pursing hard for the last about one and a half years for early completion of the project. He has not only written letters to the concerned but also met personally Gadkari and Yadav many times. He had even visited the site quite a few times to personally check progress of work of construction of the road.

In the last week of January this year, Arora had visited the site during which he was told that bituminous work on about 1.5-Km stretch was pending. The work was withheld due to cold weather because it was not possible for contractor to do premix carpeting work during rough and foggy weather.

The total 12.95-km-long elevated road has been completed at a cost of Rs 756.27 crore. The work on the project had begun on October 10, 2017. The first span of the elevated road was completed and opened in September, second in October, third in November 2023. The work of completion of last span was to be completed by January 26 this year. Arora remarked, “The project is going to prove a boon for the commuters as it is about to reduce time of travel and fuel cost but also to help in minimising the pollution levels and rate of accidents in the city.”
