The Safai Sewaks of the Municipal Council, who were on strike for the last three days regarding their various demands, ended their strike on Friday evening after the assurance of MLA Kuljit Singh Randhawa. After this, from Saturday morning, the sanitary branch of the council will run a cleaning campaign on a war footing in the city, so that the garbage heaps across the city due to the strike can be cleaned.
MLA Kuljit Singh Randhawa assured that their demands will be met. He said in his address that sanitation workers have a special contribution in human life. Which play an important role in keeping the environment of human life clean. The special contribution of sanitation workers cannot be ignored. Due to which the environment remains clean. He said that he always stands with the people and fights for their rights.
Randhawa thanked the sanitation workers and said that he is an MLA today only because of their votes and he is extremely saddened that due to the incidents that happened in his family relationships, the sanitation workers had to struggle for 3 days in the cold of PoG (Coldy month).
After 3 days, he apologized and assured that he has instructed the officials to pass a resolution in the upcoming city council meeting and send it to the government so that the employees can be paid salary at DC rate on the lines of Chandigarh.
He also assured that he will meet Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann and Municipal Bodies Minister for the remaining demands.
