The Chandigarh Administration has notified the use of residential sites in the Union Territory for the purpose of Bed & Breakfast establishments under the Bed & Breakfast Policy framed by the Department of Tourism, UT Chandigarh. The notification has been issued by the Estates Department under Rule 9(i) of the Chandigarh Estate Rules, 2007, as amended from time to time, by the Chief Administrator with the prior approval of the Hon’ble Administrator, Shri Gulab Chand Kataria, Governor of Punjab and Administrator, UT Chandigarh.
The initiative aims to promote tourism by encouraging clean, affordable and authentic homestay experiences for visitors while showcasing the city’s local culture and hospitality. The policy is expected to strengthen the tourism ecosystem by complementing the existing hospitality infrastructure and creating additional income opportunities for eligible homeowners with minimal investment through responsible use of their residential properties.
As per the notification, only residential units having a minimum size of 500 square yards shall be eligible. The residential unit must be registered as an establishment under the Bed & Breakfast Policy framed by the Department of Tourism, Chandigarh Administration. The owner(s) of the residential unit shall obtain all necessary permissions and No Objection Certificates (NOCs) as required under the policy and only the owner(s) shall be eligible to apply. All mandatory conditions prescribed under the policy shall be complied with.
