Citing issues related to Law and Order, the administration has cancelled the permission that was reportedly granted to the Jakhar Trust last month. The Trust was to start distributing shirts to the participants today.
Condemning the action, MLA Sandeep Jakhar raised questions regarding the government’s cancellation of the 7th Abohar Marathon, which was scheduled for November 1st. He remarked that while the Punjab government boasts of “Yudh Nashian Virudh” its decision to halt an event designed to inspire a healthy lifestyle among young people casts doubt on its actual approach.
The MLA said that the marathon sees a large turnout of youth every year. The event is more than just a race; it serves as a vital initiative to keep young people away from drugs, promote fitness awareness, and advocate for a healthy lifestyle within society. The cancellation has left many young participants and athletes—who had been preparing for the event for a long time—deeply disappointed.
He pointed out a clear discrepancy between the Punjab government’s words and its actions. If the government is genuinely committed to steering youth away from drugs, it should be fostering sports and social activities rather than creating obstacles for such events.
Jakhar said that following the revocation of the permission for the November 1st marathon, the Jakhar Trust is requesting authorization to hold the event on November 22. It remains to be seen whether the administration will grant approval
He said that the Jakhar Trust’s “Khelon ki Aur, Nashin se Door” campaign aims to connect youth with sports and strengthen efforts toward a drug-free society.
