CROP ON 500 ACRES REMAIN SUBMERGED IN ABOHAR, MLA VISITS AFFECTED AREA

Even after eight days of unseasonal rains and heavy hailstorms that wreaked havoc upon farmers in the Abohar region, draining of water in some villages has not been executed.

Abohar MLA Sandeep Jakhar inspects waterlogged villages

MLA Sandeep Jakhar, who recently visited affected villages—Sappanwali and Dhani Kalu Wali—has expressed deep indignation over the absence of officials. During the inspection, the MLA observed that more than 500 acres of land across these two villages remain submerged under water. The hailstorm has completely flattened the wheat and other crops. Farmers report that due to waterlogging, the crops have begun to rot, causing the extent of the damage to escalate further.

The MLA remarked that even eight days after the calamity, officials have yet to pay any heed to these villages. “Is the administration unable to see the 500 acres of submerged land? Are officials confined solely to their files and offices? There is no one willing to come down to the ground level to listen to the farmers’ plight,” he said and demanded that the government order an immediate special girdawari without any further delay.

He also pointed out that many farmers have yet to receive compensation for the losses incurred in August 2025—a delay that is further exacerbating their current economic crisis. He warned that if officials do not visit to oversee water drainage and assess the crop damage, he would adopt a strong stance to uphold the rights of the farmers
