DEPUTY COMMISSIONER REVIEWS PREPARATIONS FOR 12TH INTERNATIONAL DAY OF YOGA 2026

Sh. Nishant Kumar Yadav, IAS, Deputy Commissioner, Chandigarh, today reviewed the preparations for the upcoming 12th International Day of Yoga (IDY) 2026, which will be celebrated on June 21, 2026 at Tiranga Park, Sector 17, Chandigarh, under the theme “Yoga for Wellness, Wisdom, and World Peace.”

During the review, the Deputy Commissioner took comprehensive stock of all logistical and operational arrangements being made by various departments and issued necessary directions to ensure the smooth and successful conduct of the event.

Sh. Gulab Chand Kataria, Hon’ble Governor of Punjab and Administrator, UT Chandigarh, will grace the occasion as the Chief Guest. Around 3,500 participants are expected to take part in the mass yoga session, making it a grand celebration of health, harmony and holistic well-being. On the occasion, the Administrator will also felicitate 16 individuals for their outstanding contribution towards the promotion and propagation of yoga in the city.

Reviewing the arrangements, the Deputy Commissioner directed all concerned departments to ensure seamless coordination and effective execution of their assigned responsibilities. He emphasized that participants should be able to reach the venue conveniently and without any difficulty. To facilitate transportation, 25 buses have been arranged to ferry participants from various pickup points across the city to the venue.

The Deputy Commissioner also directed officials to ensure adequate availability of clean and safe drinking water and sufficient mobile toilet facilities for the convenience of participants. The Chandigarh Police has been instructed to make comprehensive arrangements for crowd management, traffic regulation and security to ensure a safe and orderly event.

Special emphasis was laid on ensuring flawless live streaming of the address of the Hon’ble Prime Minister of India, which will be broadcast during the programme as part of the nationwide celebration of International Day of Yoga. Concerned officers were directed to make all necessary technical arrangements to ensure uninterrupted transmission without any glitches.

The Deputy Commissioner stated that International Day of Yoga is a significant national event that promotes healthy living and collective well-being. He called upon all departments to work in close coordination and ensure that the programme is conducted in a smooth, disciplined and befitting manner, providing a positive experience for all participants.
