Following leads in a recent snatching case (FIR 12/2025 u/s 302(2) BNS), SD Dera Bassi Police had brought interstate snatcher Ajay Kumar alias Billa on production warrant from Sudhowala Jail, Dehradun, Uttrakhand for three days police Remand.
During preliminary interrogation, Billa confessed to his involvement in at least 18 snatching cases in tricity.
On Wednesday , while being taken for recovery of a snatched mobile phone by the police team led by SHO Dera Bassi, Inspector Sumit Mor, the accused attempted to flee by jumping from the police vehicle near a bridge on the Ramgarh-Mubarikpur road. However, during the failed attempt to flee from custody, he broke his right leg.
Billa has a criminal history, with six snatching cases registered against him across Rishikesh (Uttarakhand), Panchkula (Haryana), and Dera Bassi (Punjab). Further investigation is underway.
