CBI ARRESTS PROCLAIMED OFFENDER IN BANK FRAUD CASE OF RS 5.69 LAKH

Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has arrested on Wednesday Satish Kumar Anand, a Proclaimed Offender (PO) in a case relating to bank fraud of Rs. 5,69,000/-, from Rohini East, Delhi.

CBI had registered the instant case on 05.05.1978, against three accused including, the then Branch Manager, Bank of India, Hapur, UP,  Satish Kumar Anand, Manager of M/s Ashok Trading, Hapur, UP;,  Ashok Kumar, Proprietor of M/s Ashok Trading, Hapur, UP on the allegations that the accused Branch Manager while being posted as the Branch Manager, Bank of India, Hapur during 1977 entered into a criminal conspiracy with Satish Kumar Anand and Ashok Kumar and thereby caused loss to Bank of India of Rs. 5,69,000/- . It was alleged that the said Branch Manager sanctioned loan to M/s Ashok Trading, Hapur, on the basis of forged Railway receipts/ bills submitted by the accused private persons.

After investigation, CBI filed the charge sheet against all the three accused persons namely- the then Branch Manager, Bank of India, Hapur, Satish Kumar Anand (private person) and Ashok Kumar (private person) in the Ld. Court of Special Judge, CBI, Dehradun.

The Ld. Special Judge, CBI, Dehradun, vide judgement dated 19.06.1985, convicted the accused Satish Kumar Anand and Ashok Kumar and awarded Imprisonment (RI) of 05 years and fine of Rs.15,000/- while the accused Branch Manager was acquitted. After conviction, the accused Satish Kumar Anand absconded himself to avoid imprisonment. The Ld. Court of Special Judge, CBI, Anti-Corruption, Dehradun, vide the order dated 30.11.2009, declared absconding Satish Kumar Anand as Proclaimed Offender.

The absconding accused Satish Kumar Anand avoided the arrest by hiding himself at different locations and repeatedly changing his locations. He could not be found at his known address at New Delhi and Hapur, UP. Concerted efforts were made by CBI for tracing and nabbing the said proclaimed offender. The intensive and continuous efforts were made in the neighbourhood of his last locations to obtain clues about the whereabouts of the said proclaimed offender. Thereupon, the phone number of the son of Satish Kumar Anand was obtained from the sources developed in the neighbourhood of the last locations of the proclaimed offender. Based upon the Subscriber Detail Record of the said phone number, the address mentioned was kept in surveillance. Earnest efforts made in this endeavor yielded positive results and the accused proclaimed offender Satish Kumar Anand was traced and arrested.

The Proclaimed Offender Satish Kumar Anand was produced in the Ld. Court of Special Judge, CBI, Dehradun today and he has been sent in judicial custody by the Ld. Court.
