In a crackdown on ticketless and irregular travel, Ferozepur Railway Division has recovered more than Rs 7.84 crore as penalty since the launch of a special ticket checking campaign on April 22, 2025.

The drive, which remains ongoing, aims to curb unauthorised travel across the division and instill a sense of responsibility among passengers towards purchasing valid tickets. As per information, as many as 1,16,982 cases of irregular or ticketless travel have been detected till July 18, highlighting the scale of the challenge faced by the Railways.

(SUBHEAD)In April alone, the division had collected ₹3.32 crore, which included around ₹45 lakh from the Amritsar railway station only. Over 33,000 passengers were found travelling without tickets that month. With the summer rush escalating, railway authorities had earlier extended the campaign till May 21, during which nearly 23,000 passengers were caught and fined a total of Rs 1.55 crore.

DRM Sanjay Sahu lauded the relentless efforts of the ticket checking staff and Chief Ticket Inspectors (CTI), whose vigilance and commitment led to this significant revenue recovery. He also appealed to passengers to cooperate with railway rules and always travel with a valid ticket.

“The revenue generated through such campaigns will directly contribute to further improving passenger amenities and services,” he said.

Senior Divisional Commercial Manager Paramdeep Singh Saini said that awareness campaigns are also being run alongside to encourage lawful travel and ensure a comfortable journey for genuine passengers.
