Union Health Minister Shri J P Nadda honoured Hav Naresh Kumar, a resident of District Ropar and his family members at the “Angdaan” ceremony, a celebration of the 15th Indian Organ Donation Day, organized by the National Organ & Tissue Transplant Organization (NOTTO) at Dr. Ambedkar International Centre, New Delhi today.
The Minister commended Hav Naresh Kumar's selfless decision to donate the organs of his 18-year-old son, Arshdeep, who tragically passed away due to a road traffic accident, recognizing the profound impact of this noble act on saving multiple lives. The event was aimed to promote awareness about the life-saving impact of organ and tissue donation.
(SUBHEAD)The organ donation process was successfully coordinated by the Army transplant team of Chandimandir Command Hospital, which harvested Arshdeep's liver, kidney, pancreas, and cornea.
The liver and kidney were transported to the Army Hospital Research and Referral in New Delhi via a green corridor, facilitated by the Military Police, and then flown by the Indian Air Force. The other kidney and pancreas were donated to a patient at PGI suffering from a life-threatening illness, while the corneas were preserved in the Eye Bank of Command Hospital to restore eyesight for those in need.
This remarkable feat also highlights the exemplary work of the Command Hospital, which has been consistently retrieving organs and was recently awarded the title of Best Organ Retrieval Centre by the Government of India.
