NSO CONDUCTS CAPACITY-BUILDING SESSION ON PRICE SURVEYS AND INDUSTRIAL DATA

The National Statistics Office (Field Operations Division), Regional Office Chandigarh, organized a one-day Training Programme on Price Collection Survey for the Wholesale Price Index (WPI), Producer Price Index (PPI), and Index of Industrial Production (IIP) with Base Year 2023 on Monday for officers and officials from the North Zone regional and sub-regional offices of NSO (FOD). The programme saw enthusiastic participation from around 130 delegates representing various regional offices.

Shri Deepak Mehra, Deputy Director General, RO Chandigarh, extended a warm welcome to all dignitaries and participants. In his inaugural address, Shri Dalip Singh, Additional Director General, Economic Statistics Division (ESD), emphasized the importance of price statistics, the need for accurate and high-quality data collection, and their far-reaching role in economic analysis and policymaking.

Delivering the keynote address, Shri Dalip Kumar Sinha, Deputy Director General, Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT), highlighted the relevance of the WPI and PPI schemes and stressed the necessity of base year revision to more accurately reflect the current economic scenario.

Ms. Pooja, Director, DPIIT, along with her team, and Shri Deepak Dhanawat, Director, Economic Statistics Division, MoSPI, delivered detailed presentations on the methodologies, operational procedures, and key aspects of the WPI, PPI, and IIP schemes.

The programme concluded with a formal Vote of Thanks by Ms. Aayushi Mishra, Deputy Director, RO Chandigarh, who expressed gratitude to all dignitaries, resource persons, and participants for their active involvement in making the training programme a success.
