GOVT COLLEGE OF EDUCATION HOSTS 7-DAY NSS SPECIAL CAMP ON ‘YOUTH FOR DIGITAL INDIA AND DRUG-FREE SOCIETY’

The seven-day National Service Scheme (NSS) Special Camp commenced on Monday at the Government College of Education, Sector 20-D, Chandigarh, with immense enthusiasm and a sense of responsibility under the guidance of Principal Dr. Sapna Nanda.

(MOREPIC1)(MOREPIC2)  The theme of the NSS Camp is “Youth for Digital India and Drug Free Society”, aims to engage volunteers in meaningful service while sensitizing them to critical social issues. The inaugural day was meticulously planned to provide both structural orientation and intellectual enrichment, thereby setting the tone for the activities of the week ahead.

The proceedings began with the assembly of NSS volunteers and the collective singing of the NSS song, which reaffirmed the spirit of solidarity and the guiding motto “Not Me, But You.” The camp was formally inaugurated in a dignified ceremony, graced by Chief Guest Dr. Parveen Goyal, NSS Coordinator, Panjab University, alongside Dean Dr. A.K. Srivastava and the NSS Programme Officers. In his inaugural address, Dr. Goyal underscored the significance of youth participation in nation-building and highlighted the indispensable role of NSS volunteers in realizing the camp’s theme.

This was followed by an orientation session led by Dr. Balwinder Kaur, NSS Programme Officer, which acquainted the participants with the philosophy, objectives, and historical development of the NSS, ensuring that their efforts during the camp were purposeful and well-directed.

The second session featured an insightful lecture on Gender Sensitization by Retd. Prof. Rajesh Gill Panjab University. Prof. Gill engaged the volunteers in a thought-provoking dialogue on gender equality, emphasizing the need to challenge entrenched stereotypes and discriminatory practices. Drawing attention to real-life examples, she highlighted the adverse consequences of gender bias, while stressing the importance of upbringing and education in fostering inclusivity and respect. The session provided the volunteers with critical perspectives on gender justice and empowered them to advocate for equality in their future engagements. The session concluded with NSS Programme Officer Dr. Aarti Bhatt expressing gratitude to Prof. Gill for her enlightening contribution.
