The NSS Unit of Government College of Education, Sector 20D, Chandigarh, successfully concluded its 7-Day Special NSS Camp (21st to 27th September, 2025) with a grand valedictory function on campus. The camp, organized under the theme “Youth for Digital India and Drug-Free Society”, was a week-long journey of service, learning, and awareness for the volunteers. The camp began with NSS Song and Ganesh Vandana by NSS volunteers, followed by the Welcome Address of the Chief Guest Mr. Jai Bhagwan, Regional Director, NSS, Chandigarh by the Principal, Dr. Sapna Nanda, who motivated the volunteers to embody the spirit of “Not Me But You.”

In his address, Mr. Jai Bhagwan congratulated the NSS Unit for organizing a well-planned and enthusiastic camp and appreciated the Principal, faculty, and Program Officers—Dr. Balwinder Kaur, Dr. Aarti Bhatt, and Dr. Upasana Thapliyal—for their effort. He commended the college for receiving the Best NSS Unit Award, and student Ms. Shruti Sharma for receiving the letter of appreciation for her dedicated services. Mr. Bhagwan also raised awareness about the ‘My Bharat Portal’, encouraging registration for youth engagement, learning, and nation-building. The brief report of the camp was presented by Dr. Balwinder Kaur, Program Officer. The Valedictory Function commenced with cultural performances, nukkad nataks, and sharing of personal experiences by volunteers.

Throughout the week, NSS volunteers actively participated in a range of meaningful activities, combining learning with community service. The camp began with educational visits to the GRIID, Blind Institute, and Old Age Home, sensitizing students to social concerns. Awareness campaigns included rallies, drug de-addiction drives, traffic and fire safety sessions, an AIDS awareness program with the Red Ribbon Club, nukkad nataks, and outreach in the adopted village. Health and wellness initiatives featured yoga, self-defense training, a health and eye check-up camp at Village Kajheri, cleanliness drives, and dispensary assistance. Volunteers also carried out environment-friendly practices such as plastic waste collection and best out of waste preparation. Skill-building and knowledge-enhancing sessions, including grid installation demonstrations, blindfold games, and millet recipe demonstrations, were highlights. Students actively engaged in sports, cultural programs, and creative events, while also providing meaningful community service to the blind, elderly, and rural residents, reflecting the true spirit of NSS.

The event also featured prize distribution, where awards were given for Best out of Waste and Millet Recipe competitions, as well as recognition to the President, Vice President, and Group Leaders of the NSS Unit for their leadership. The title of Best NSS Volunteer (Male) was awarded to Mr. Anurag, while Best NSS Volunteer (Female) was awarded to Ms. Manpreet Kaur, for their outstanding contribution and dedication during the camp. The program concluded with the National Anthem and a heartfelt Vote of Thanks by Dr. Upasna Thapliyal.
