GRIID SUCCESSFULLY CONDUCTED AN AWARENESS PROGRAM FOR GENERAL SCHOOL PRINCIPALS AND CHILDREN

Government Rehabilitation Institute for Intellectual Disabilities (GRIID) successfully conducted an awareness program for general school principals and children with special needs (CWSN) in-charges on diagnosis, therapeutic support, and concessions for children with intellectual disabilities. The program was organized under the aegis of the Social Welfare Department, UT Chandigarh, as part of the Sewa Pakhwada initiative.

Around 30 principals, CWSN in-charges, and counselors from different government and private schools of Chandigarh participated in the program. The event aimed to equip educators with the knowledge and skills necessary to support children with intellectual disabilities, autism, ADHD, and other associated conditions.Dr. Reena Jain delivered an informative session on the diagnosis and therapeutic supports for children with intellectual disabilities, providing valuable insights into the various interventions and strategies that can be employed to support these children.

Mr. Anil Kumar, Senior Special Educator, took a session on concessions, facilities, and rights of persons with disabilities (PWDs), highlighting the importance of approaching the relevant authorities for availing support and services.The program concluded with a vote of thanks by Mrs. Vandana Singh, Officiating Principal. The course coordinator, Mr. Karuppasamy, along with Dr. Reena Jain, Mrs. Vandana Singh, and Mr. Anil Kumar, effectively addressed all the queries raised by the participants.

The program received positive feedback from the participants, who appreciated the efforts of GRIID in promoting awareness and inclusivity in schools. The event marked a significant step towards creating a more supportive and inclusive environment for children with intellectual disabilities in Chandigarh.
