CHANDIGARH POLICE CYBER CRIME ARRESTS NIGERIAN NATIONAL IN FAKE FRIENDSHIP/DATING FRAUD CASE

The Cyber Crime Police Station, UT Chandigarh, achieved a major breakthrough by arresting a foreign national in a fake friendship fraud scam. The case was registered under FIR No. 69 dated 26.06.2025 u/s 318(4), 319(2), 338, 336(3), 340(2), 61(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023. The investigation and arrest were carried out under the supervision of Ms. Geetanjali Khandelwal, IPS, SP/Cyber Crime, with guidance from Sh. A. Venkatesh, DSP, and leadership of Inspector Eram Rizwi, SHO, by a team led by ASI Manjeet Singh and ASI Ravinder Singh.

The accused identified as Ifeanyi Christian Ifesinachi S/o Jhonata Ifesinachi Citizen of Nigeria/ Delhi
The case was registered on the complaint of Sh. Akashdeep Singh, Chandigarh, who reported that he received a WhatsApp message from a person claiming to be a U.S. citizen named Stanley. After developing an online friendship, Stanley falsely informed him that he was detained at Mumbai Airport and needed money for customs and taxes. Trusting him, the complainant transferred ₹6,08,960/- to multiple accounts provided by the fraudster.

The accused was the main operator behind the fraudulent online persona Stanley. He handled communication with victims, received fraudulent proceeds through Indian bank accounts, and coordinated withdrawals through his associates. He also used multiple fake digital identities to target victims across India. Pretending to be a male while being female, and pretending to be a female while being male.

RECOVERY:  Four mobile phones, in which 35 Gmail accounts are found active. 15 SIM cards, three debit cards and five bank passbooks and one expired Nigerian passport.
