FIVE-DAY INTERNATIONAL WORKSHOP ON “UNDERSTANDING THE MYSTERIES OF FLUORINATION IN MEDICINAL CHEMISTRY” INAUGURATED

NIPER S.A.S. Nagar, ushered in the next phase of the Global Initiative of Academic Networks (GIAN) programme with the inauguration of an international week-long workshop (03 to 07.11.2025) titled “Understanding the Mysteries of Fluorination in Medicinal Chemistry”. The course is being delivered by Professor Ryan A. Altman from Purdue University, USA, an eminent medicinal chemist internationally recognised for his pioneering contributions in organofluorine chemistry, organometallic catalysis, and small-molecule drug design.

Dr Deepak B. Salunke and Dr Madhuri Tanaji Patil (MCM DAV College, Chandigarh), course coordinators, extended a warm welcome to the dignitaries and participants, and outlined the academic vision and objectives of the GIAN programme. The event was graced by Prof. Ganga Ram Chaudhary, Head, Department of Chemistry, who served as the Chief Guest, and Prof. Gurjaspreet Singh, Local Coordinator GIAN, Panjab University.

Addressing the audience, Prof Inder Pal Singh, Head of the Department of Natural Products and Associate Dean (Alumni and International Affairs), NIPER S.A.S. Nagar, applauded the organizers for their dedicated efforts in bringing together global expertise and young scientific minds. He emphasized the role of the GIAN programme in enabling international academic engagement and strengthening research culture. Prof Singh inspired the participants to pursue rigorous inquiry, innovation, and meaningful collaboration to advance scientific knowledge across disciplines and contribute to the global research community.

Dr Deepak B. Salunke, and Dr Madhuri Tanaji Patil, course coordinators, highlighted the contents of the course. The workshop has attracted a diverse audience, including students (B.Sc., M.Sc., M. Pharma, and PhD), faculty, researchers, and professionals from both academic and industrial sectors, highlighting its broad relevance and interdisciplinary scope.
