The Chandigarh Yuva Dal has demanded that the Chandigarh administration to complete the construction of night shelters in December ahead of schedule for the thousands of people sleeping under the open sky.

Yuva Dal President Vinayak Bangia and Convenor Sunil Yadav said, night shelters are built in various locations every year, keeping the winter in mind. People can stay in these shelters for free. The Social Welfare Department constructs through private companies, but according to the tender process, they are to be built in December.

Considering the increasing cold, construction is needed quickly.

Officials should have tendered for their construction in November itself. Due to the slow process, construction has not yet been completed, and attendants accompanying patients from other states seeking health care are finding it very difficult to spend the night in the open.

In view of this, night shelters should be constructed soon at PGIMR, GMSH-16, GMCH-32.

Apart from this, we also demand early construction of night shelters for auto rickshaw drivers and working class in front of Sector-19 Shani Temple, Sector-26 Transport Area and in the markets of many other sectors in view of the increasing cold, added youth leaders.
