The Punjab and Haryana High Court on Thursday has stayed the proceedings the Reservation Act under which the provision was made to grant 75 per cent reservation in the private sector in Haryana.

The proceeding was was stayed on a petition filed by the Faridabad Industries Association. Earlier, the Haryana government had taken a stand in the matter.

The government, acting under the relevant Act, had issued orders from January 15, asking the private sector to submit compliance reports within three months. Under the Haryana State Employment of Local Candidates Act 2020, the Haryana government had announced 75 per cent reservation for youth in private sector jobs. But there was anger in the private sector against the act.

It was argued in the petition that it was against the principle of eligibility. The government notified the act in November 2020. Although the government had ordered action under the Act only for low paid jobs, the petition declared the act unconstitutional.
