INTERACTING WITH ELECTED REPRESENTATIVES OF THE BORDER VILLAGES AT GOVERNMENT MR COLLEGE, THE GOVERNOR SAID THAT WITH THE PUBLIC PARTICIPATION AND PERFECT COORDINATION OF ALL SECURITY AGENCIES, WE CAN STOP THE ATTEMPTS MADE BY THE ANTI-NATIONAL ELEMENTS TO SMUGGLE ARMS AND DRUGS INTO PUNJAB WITH THE INTENTION OF DESTABILIZING INDIA.

During his visit to this border districts of Ferozepore and Fazilka on Tuesday Punjab Governor Banwari Lal Purohit said that Pakistan can never beat India in a direct war so Pakistan is smuggling drugs, firearms and ammunition as a part of its proxy war against India. While interacting with the media persons at Ferozepore, the Governor said that our neighbor cannot fight directly so it has been adopting various tactics to weaken our young generations which include smuggling of drugs.

The Governor also raised his concern over illegal mining taking place near border villages and said that illegal mining is the one of the biggest security threats in border districts. He said that anyone involved in illegal mining, should be booked for treachery and sedition for jeopardizing national security. “Few of the officials from BSF and Army have brought to my notice that due to illegal mining, the security of border areas is in danger as due to mining, the BSF posts may got damaged. There are several other things which cannot be discussed but at any cost, the illegal mining should be stopped”, said Governor Purohit.
“The police officials posted in the border districts, who had been working at the same place for the last several years, should be transferred on regular basis keeping in view the security concern. I have also discussed this issue with the Director General of Police Gaurav Yadav”, said Governor while addressing the media persons.(SUBHEAD)
“It is also the duty of the residents of the border villages to inform police if any kind of unusual or movement near the border. I would also suggest that all the villages situated near the border belts, must constitute 11 member “Nagrik Suraksha Committee”, which will ensure that nothing wrong takes place in their village and if anything happens, they will inform the concerned officials”, said Governor.
The governor ensured that he will take up the matters related to development in the border villages to the higher authorities. “I will discuss with the Union Defence Minister that the percentage for the youths belonging to these border districts for recruitment in army under Agniveer scheme should be increased in comparison to other areas besides some industry should also be setup in these areas”, he added.
On this occasion, Chief Secretary Vijay Kumar Janjua, DGP Punjab Gaurav Yadav, Principal Secretary J M Balamurugan, Commissioner Faridkot Division Chander Gaind, IG PK Yadav, MLA Ferozepur (Rural) Rajnish Dahiya, MLA Ferozepur (Urban) Ranbir Bhullar, MLA Zira Naresh Kataria, Deputy Commissioner Amrit Singh, SSP Surinder Lamba , senior BJP leader Rana Gurmit Singh Sodhi and others were present.
During visit to Fazilka Border District, Purohit emphasis on the joint efforts of Police-Public to eradicate the menace of drugs and Arms/Ammunition trafficking to save the youth and thwart the nefarious intentions across the border.
Interacting with elected representatives of the border villages at Government MR College, the Governor said that with the public participation and perfect coordination of all security agencies, we can stop the attempts made by the anti-national elements to smuggle arms and drugs into Punjab with the intention of destabilizing India.
Emphasizing on the need of Civil Security Committees at the village and ward levels, he said that these committees can be very effective to thwart the attempts of anti-social elements by keeping themselves vigilant of the nefarious activities of the enemy.
Purohit said that since the beginning of his tenure as the Governor of Punjab, he has been continuously working on this matter and success is also being achieved through the good coordination of security agencies, but public participation is also must.
Taking up the problems of the border area residents, the Governor assured that these grievances would be brought into the notice of Government of India for overall development of the border belt. Launching the Mission ABAD-30 (Absolute Border Area Development) scheme prepared for the comprehensive development of 30 villages by the district administration, he expressed hope that the initiative would definitely be fruitful for the welfare of residents of 30 border villages.
Interacting with the media, Purohit said that as per the demand of the farmers, more time had been accorded to them to work in their farms across the fencing at international border while the Govt. was also working on to resolve the other issues of the border areas residents.
Earlier, Punjab Chief Secretary, Vijay Kumar Janjua welcomed the Governor and apprised him about the needs of the border area villages and also about the work being done by the administration.
Deputy Commissioner Dr. Himanshu Aggarwal spoke about Mission ABAD-30 and project ‘KITAB’ in the district and explained how the district administration was working to improve living standards of border area people.
