Two back-to-back armed robberies in a small stretch and within a short span of time in wee hours were reported from Ashok Nagar area of PS Jyoti Nagar on Saturday. Modus operandi in both the incidentremained similar, i.e.,two persons came on motorcycle targeted a specific category of persons, robbed them of cash on gun point and fled.
In these incidents two separate cases vide FIRNo. 762/22 and 764/22 under the relevant sections of law were registered and investigation taken up. Assessing the severity of incidents on the festive season, Operations wing/NED was roped in alongwith PS team, to solve these cases on first priority.
Police teams started working on it and scanned & analyses multiple CCTV footages of the vicinity. The technical surveillance was mounted and local sources were also deployed. Persons earlier involved in criminal cases with the same modus operandi were also interrogated at length to derive any clue.Minute details of the robbers were collected from the victims after detailed enquiry.
The victims were shown the photographs of suspected BCs of PS Jyoti Nagar and adjoining Police Stations, having resemblances with the details provided by the victims and information extracted through sources.
Meanwhile through local intelligence inputsinformation regarding persons about to commit crime in the area with same modus operandi was received. Accordingly Special Staff team comprising, SI Akhil, ASI Sanjeev, HC Sarvan, HC Vishant, HC Nitin, HC Vinay, Const. Deepak, Const. Jagdish and Const. Deepak under the supervision of Inspr. Harish IC/Spl.Staff/NED laid a trap in the area.
At about 2.00 AM when the police team was present on the service road,towards Ambedkar College (Wazirabad road) near Loni Goal Chakkar they noticed two suspected persons plying on a hero splendor motorcycle without registration plates. Seeing the police presence, they hurriedly made a sharp U-turn in a bid to escape, resultant to which their motorcycle skidded and they fell on the road. Meanwhile, police team blocked their path by the Govt. Gypsy. Finding themselves holed-up, pillion rider whipped out a pistol and indiscriminately fired 02 shots on the police team resultantly one of the bullets hit at the Govt. Gypsy.
Inspr. Harish, I/C Special Staff/NED, who was in the Gyspy alongwith other staff finding no other option retaliated and fired two rounds from his service pistol after due warning to the criminals in order to ensure safety of police team. One of the bullets hit in the leg of one criminal, however, the other dodged the bullet and started running in other side but he was chased by Const. Jagdish and overpowered with the help of other staff.
The injured was immediately shifted to GTB Hospital for treatment and senior officers were apprised of the facts. Immediately, on duty night GOs, ACP/Gokalpuri also reached at the spot. The crime and FSL teams were called for inspection at scene of crime and collections of exhibits. Later, the identity of injured person wasestablished as Shakti @ Sonu S/o Anoop Singh R/o Jawala Nagar, Delhi age -36 years. While the other person has been identified as Sachin S/o Raju R/o Ashok Nagar age-24 years.
Accordingly, a case vide FIR No. 766/22 dated 22.10.22 u/s 186/353/307/34 IPC & 25/27 Arms Act, PS Jyoti Nagar, Delhi was registered.(SUBHEAD)
During course of investigation, it surfaced that Shakti @ Sonu S/o Anoop Singh is wanted in 02 cases of PS Jyoti Nagar (FIR No. 717/22 dated 18.09.22 u/s 323/341/506/34 IPC and FIR No. 753/22 dated 15.10.2022 u/s 323/341/506/308/34 IPC). On 15.10.2022, he attacked on a police person (SI Subhash posted at PS Jagatpuri and residing in Ashok Nagar).
Mr. Sanjay Kumar Sain, IPS, DCP, on sustained interrogation they confessed for their involvements in both the robberies and other criminal cases. They further disclosed that they are well acquainted with the topography of the area and used to target the vegetable vendors and milk suppliers and other similar small vendor who are out on the road in wee hours in connection with their business and carry cash amount. After committing robberies, they fled through the narrow lanes.
On checking through the engine and chassis numbers, the motorcycle they were riding, the same also found to be stolen vide e-FIR No.005976/22 dated 07.03.2022 u/s 379 IPC, PS Karawal Nagar.Further investigation in the case is under progress.
ARRESTED PERSONS: Shakti @ Sonu S/o Anoop Singh R/o Jawala Nagar, Delhi age -36 years. He is BC of PS Mansarover Park a wanted in FIR No. 717/22 dated 18.09.2022 u/s 323/341/506/34 IPC, PS Jyoti Nagar and FIR No. 753/22 dated 15.10.2022 u/s 323/341/506/308/34 IPC, PS Jyoti Nagar in which he had assaulted a police personnel presently posted at PS Jagat Puri, Delhi and residing in Ashok Nagar. He is previously involved in 18 criminal cases including Attempt to murder, Robbery and Arms Act.
