Senior BJP leader and former Member Parliament (MP) Sunil Jakhar has raised questions on the state government's intent behind holding Punjabi NRIs Meet especially in light of continued injustice, fear and trauma being faced by an NRI family in Amritsar at the hands of liquor mafia goons who brazenly disrupted their wedding reception taking law into their hands.

Jakhar tweeted, “It is sheer shameless effrontery of Punjab Govt to advertise meetings with NRIs on 16/19th Dec even as a NRI family awaits justice while the liquor mafia goons who attacked their wedding reception in Amritsar are roaming free.”

Pertinent to mention that on November 4 last month two groups of wine contractors had illegally barged into a wedding function and opened indiscriminate fire at each other over issue of use of liquor at marriage palace at Verka Chowk Amritsar where the NRI family was having their ceremonies.
