The Punjab government has accepted Vishwa Jain Sangathan Punjab chapter’s request to include Mahaparva Samvatsri in the list of restricted holidays.
In the absence of restricted holidays, Jain employees used to take second leave to celebrate their religious festivals while they had to take voluntary holidays for religious festivals of other societies.
Dr Sandeep Kumar Jain, State Convenor of Vishwa Jain Sangathan said the NGO has been corresponding with the Punjab Government for the past ten years and also wrote to the National and State Minorities Commission, on which the Minorities Commission passed the proposal in 2020 and sent it to the government, but no action was taken earlier.(SUBHEAD)
According to the notification issued on December 20 under the signature of Chief Secretary VK Janjua, the employees can avail voluntary leave on Jain Mahaparva Samvatsari.
Purushottam Jain, deputy convener of Vishwa Jain Sangathan, Ravinder Jain, general secretary, Rakesh Jain, jt-secretary (Guru Sevak Family), Nikhilesh Jain, media secretary, Abohar based Jain leader Stinu Jain, SS Jain Sabha Sangrur president Sunil Jain, ELDECO Ludhiana president Sanjeev Jain, Kulbhushan Jain have thanked the Punjab government and demanded from the Punjab government that besides Samvatsri, restricted holidays may also be announced on Anant Chaturdashi for convenience of Jain society. Also, a notification be issued to ban animal slaughter and sale of non-veg on the days of Jain festivals.
