Architecture profession has undergone many changes over the last few years due to changing economic conditions, advent of new materials and technologies and living habits of people. “This seminar titled “Next Generation: New Architecture” was conceptualized to showcase the trends in New Architecture especially in the last decade or so. It is the first time that works of young architects are being shown to the audience in this region in this manner,” said Surinder Bahga, President FSAI, Chandigarh Chapter.
(MOREPIC1) He was speaking at the four-day ARCHEX, an exhibition on interiors, exteriors and construction material, from 10 to 13th February at the Parade Ground in Sector 17, Chandigarh. This seminar was part of the ongoing exhibition.
Mridul Kumar, IPS, Superintendent of Police, Chandigarh was the Chief Guest on the occasion. He appreciated the initiative of organizers. Seminar was organized by Indian Institute of Architects, Chandigarh Chapter and Minds Media & Management Pvt Ltd. He said the importance of modern architecture can be seen from destruction caused in Turkey and Syria because of the devastating earthquake.
ARCHEX is supported by Fire & Security Association of India, Green and Eco-friendly Movement (GEM), Chandigarh Chapters.
Keynote address was delivered by Dr. Harveen Bhandari, Dean Research & Scholastic Development, Chitkara School of Planning & Architecture, she deliberated on “promising young architects working in India for the last 10-15 years in an array of specializations leading to designing built environments with an extremely passionate eye and being culturally relevant. The presentation comprised examples of buildings renowned for their out-of-the-box designs and for creating beautiful and functional spaces appealing to their social and physical context”.
Sheetal Sharma, young architect opined, “Projects spread across varied sectors, in both architecture and interior design, aiming at reinventing, transforming and enlivening spaces into an environment that responds to its occupants like a living organism with innovative designs and details reflected by a contemporary play of materials and a judicious use of technology”.
Practicing architect Aman Sohal said, “The seminar had exhibited our architecture as a form of storytelling, and understanding how the “inside” becomes relevant in creating an experience of architecture. By laying emphasis on use of natural light and creating transitions in architecture, I had shared some of our recently completed projects”.(SUBHEAD)
Architect Noor Dasmesh emphasized on designing buildings to suit local conditions. Many leading architecture colleges, universities, architects, engineers, builders participated in the seminar. Vote of thanks was presented by Shiv Dev Singh Chairman of IIA, Chandigarh Chapter.
Awards were also given to architects for their contribution in the field. These included Paramjit Virdi (Lifetime achievement), Sumit Kaur (Government Service), Tarsem Singh (Artwork), Parveen Chopra (Steel building), Bhupinder Singh Sandhu (Fire safety), Rajan Mittal (MEP Services), Gagandeep Singh Ghai, Vikas Dubey (Residential Architecture), Dr Balkar Singh (Energy Conservation), Harish Gandhi (Commercial Architecture), NK Negi (Hill Architecture), Dr. Sanjay Sharma (Structural Engineer) and Nand Lal Chandel (Hill Architecture).
