Taking up the matter of Liquid Waste Management seriously, Adviser to Administrator, Sh Dharam Pal, visited 5 Sewerage Treatment Plants of Municipal Corporation at Raipur Kalan, Raipur Khurd, Diggian, 3 BRD and Dhanas.

Speaking about the project, Sh Dharam Pal IAS said that these STPs of Municipal Corporation are under upgradation to SBR technology. Once they are upgraded, they shall all be compliant with NGT norms of less than 10 BoD. One plant at Malloya is already compliant and two other plants at Dhanas and 3 BRD have been upgraded and are under stabilisation.

Taking a very serious view of the delay in completion of 3 plants, the Adviser to Administrator issued directions to Smart City Chandigarh to ensure that the work of upgradation is completed by 30th of April, failing which he directed that the contractor be heavily penalised.(SUBHEAD)

For the upgraded STPs, he directed that flow meters be set up at inflow and outflow points. He also directed that a detailed plan be prepared for proper utilisation of the Tertiary Treated Water being produced.

It is pertinent to mention that all the STPs are being upgraded through funds of Smart City Mission and shall be handed over to Municipal Corporation, for Operation and Maintenance.

With the completion of these projects, About 50 MGD of Tertiary Treated water shall be produced which shall be used to water all 1800 parks and gardens of Chandigarh as well as for industrial purposes. This shall not only enhance the Sewerage Treatment capacity of the city but also reduce the reliance on ground water.
