Ketan Bansal, IPS, SP/Cyber Crime, UT Chandigarh, close guidance of Sh. Mridul, IPS, Addl. SP/Cyber Crime, UT, Chandigarh and leadership of Inspector Ranjit Singh, SHO, PS-Cyber Crime, Chandigarh.
The present case has been registered on the complaint of victim from Chandigarh in which she alleged that about three months ago, she had gone to Lucknow (UP) with her boyfriend and stayed in a hotel. Later on 30.03.2023, she received some personal photos of her from Instagram and the person told her that he has videos of her making physical relation with her boyfriend. Further he also sent these video to her on Instagram and demanded for Rs. 20,000/-.(SUBHEAD)
The alleged threatened and blackmailed her that if she did not deposit the money, she would sent/viral the video to her friend and family members. Due to fear, she deposited Rs. 2000/- through Google Pay to him. Further he was forcing to deposit more money, otherwise he viral the video.
In this regard, a team was constituted, headed by SI Kulwinder Kaur, along with ASI Joginder Singh, Ct. Vikas Sangwan, Ct. Paramjit and Ct. Ashok and raid was conducted in Unnao (UP). With the help of technical support and sincere efforts of team, on 03.04.2023 the accused Aryan Singh S/o Dhunni Singh R/o 54/10 South AB Nagar Unnao, Utter Pradesh was arrested and his mobile phone has been taken in police possession.
The mobile phone of Aryan Singh was checked in which personal videos pertaining to victim and her boyfriend was found present.
n this case, section 67 A IT Act was added, in which the offence is publishing or transmitting of material containing sexually explicit act etc. in electronic form and the punishment of the offence is 5 years and fine upto 10 lacs or both.
MODUS OPERANDI: Sextortion is a type of cybercrime in which an attacker threatens to distribute explicit or embarrassing images or videos of the victim unless a ransom is paid.
