AAP'S RETORT: BIKRAM MAJITHIA HAS NO MORAL GROUND TO LECTURE ON PRESS'S FREEDOM, AKALI GOVT FILED RAPE CASES AGAINST REPORTERS FOR COVERING A RELIGIOUS GATHERING: KANG

The Aam Aadmi Party replying to Akali leader Bikram Singh Majithia's allegations said that Majithia has no moral ground to lecture anyone on the issue of press freedom. AAP termed all allegations levelled by Bikram Majithia as false and baseless.
Addressing a press conference at the party office, AAP Punjab chief spokesperson Malwinder Singh Kang said that a person, who is facing charges and is under trial because of his business of drugs and had ruined the youth of Punjab, his audacity to talk about press freedom and corruption is laughable. Kang added that Majithia disrespected the Chief Minister of Punjab who is elected by 3 crore Punjabis but forgot that he is the rejected leader and has no standing to question anyone.(SUBHEAD)
Kang reminded Majithia that when he was public relations minister in the Akali government he didn't allow channels like ABP Sanjha to go on air, from 2007 to 2017, on the main cable. And today the same channel telecasted his entire press conference live. Is this not the proof enough that who gagged the media. Kang said that Rajesh Sehgal, a Spokesman reporter is still fighting for justice in court just because he published the news of Sukhbir Badal capturing booths during elections in 1998.
He added that Akali dal government harassed the news18 reporters for their reporting on sacrilege incidents and filed rape cases against reporters for covering a religious gathering in Malwa. Only Akali dal's PTC had the monopoly in the media for 10 years and the Akali govt ruined the careers of many journalists and shut down many channels in Punjab.
Kang said that AAP has respect for the fourth pillar of democracy and according to our constitution everyone has freedom of speech and expression. He added that there is no vendetta against anyone in the AAP government, but also the law doesn't allow anyone to publish content threatening to the communal peace.
