VIGILANCE BUREAU NABS ASI FOR TAKING BRIBE RS 5,000

The Punjab Vigilance Bureau (VB) during its ongoing campaign against corruption in the state, on Monday nabbed an Assistant Sub Inspector (ASI) Karmjit Singh, posted in police post, Bus Stand, Barnala for demanding and accepting a bribe of Rs 5,000.

Disclosing this here today, a spokesperson of the VB said the above said police official has been arrested on the complainant of Anil Kumar, resident of Tapa city.

Giving details he added that the complainant has approached the VB and alleged that the above said police official has demanded Rs 5,000 as a bribe to arrest an accused involved in a fraud case registered by the complainant at the police station city, Barnala.(SUBHEAD)

The spokesperson informed that a VB team from Patiala range has laid a trap and the accused police official has been arrested on the spot while taking a bribe of Rs 5,000 as a bribe from the complainant in the presence of two official witnesses.

In this regard a case under prevention of corruption act has been registered against the accused ASI at VB police station Patiala range. Further investigation in this case was under progress.
