PUNJAB VIDHAN SABHA SPEAKER URGES FARMERS TO SHUN THE PRACTICE OF WHEAT STRAW BURNING

Punjab Vidhan Sabha Speaker S. Kultar Singh Sandhwan, on Tuesday, urged the farmers of the state to buck the trend of wheat straw burning, which is polluting the environment and spreading serious diseases.

The Speaker said, Chief Minister S. Bhagwant Mann led government was trying hard to bring down the crop residue burning incidents, but this menace can't be stopped without the active cooperation of farmers as due to the crop residue burning cases, the environmental pollution is becoming major problem and people are suffering from deadly diseases.

He said that those farmers who didn't burn crop residue are being honoured by the state government and various district administrations. The Speaker, while exhorting the farmers to stop the trend of burning crop residue for the healthy future of children and youth and cooperate with the government for its management, urged the farmers to plant more and more saplings as the human beings are needed clean environment to live on earth.

Notably, about 100 farmers of different districts of the state, who shunned the practice of burning paddy and wheat crop residue for many years and adopted direct seeding of paddy, were also honoured in the Punjab Vidhan Sabha.
