Bunty Azad was on Sunday elected president of the Ganganagar Club by defeating Parveen Kalra Pammi in a direct contest by a margin of 198 votes.
Chief Electoral Officer Bhupinder Nath Ahuja said that out of total 598 votes, 512 votes were cast. Bunty Azad got 354 votes and Parveen Kalra got 156 votes, two votes were rejected. Azad’s supporters celebrated the win by dancing bhangra on the beat of the drum. Gulal was exchanged, fireworks were let off.
For the first time in the 100-year-old The Ganganagar Club, there was so much excitement for the election. Hoardings were put up on the main roads. Tents of both the candidates were placed outside the club. Tremendous activity was seen in both the camps even when the temperature was about 44 degrees. Voters living in other cities were specially called.
As many as 8 of the 11 former presidents had come to the support of Azad.
